Dr. Marcos Szomstein

Dr. Szomstein, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela with honors, where he earned his Medical Doctor degree.

Dr. Szomstein completed his General Surgery Residency at Graduate Hospital affiliated to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He went on to receive his fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Ferguson Clinic in Grand Rapids, Michigan, one of the top institutions in the country. During his fellowship he published one of the largest series in embolization of lower gastrointestinal bleed.

Dr. Szomstein has extensive experience on common anorectal problems including hemorrhoids, anal fissure, anal fistulas, anal warts, pilonidal cyst, etc. He is also very interested in difficult pelvic floor disorders that require specialized studies such as fecal incontinence, rectal prolapse, rectocele and obstructive defecation. Dr. Szomstein’s expertise includes Robotic Surgery and Laparoscopic surgery for colorectal diseases such as Colon and Rectal Cancer, Diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease and Colitis. He is one of the first surgeons to perform a robotic colon resection in South Florida.

He practices mostly in hospitals from the Baptist Health System. He is also the Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Mercy Hospital of Miami.

He has been a speaker for Myriad, a company that performs genetic testing for colon cancer. He has also been invited to be a speaker in a number of meeting to discuss subjects such as Robotic Colorectal Surgery, Colitis and the future in his specialty.

Dr. Szomstein is board certified by both the American Board of Surgery and by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Dr. Eduardo Krajewski

Dr. Krajewski, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, where he earned his Medical Doctor degree.

Dr. Krajewski started his internship at the New York Hospital of Queens and completed his General Surgery Residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center, affiliated to Jefferson College of Medicine in Philadelphia. He  then went on to receive his fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Colon and Rectal Clinic of Orlando / Orlando Regional Healthcare System under the guidance of nationally recognized faculty.

He was awarded the 2005 Robert G Somers Award in recognition of outstanding resident educator in General Surgery and the 2005 Mohan B. Das Award in recognition of outstanding performance as Chief Resident in General Surgery. In 2005, he won the first place fellow presentation at the meeting of the Florida Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

Dr. Krajewski has been invited to participate as a speaker in national and international conferences. His clinical interest in colon and rectal surgery is in the treatment of colon and rectal cancer and benign conditions of the colon and rectum such as diverticulitis, crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and others. Dr. Krajewski specializes in Laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery to treat such conditions. Dr. krajewski also specializes in treatment of common anorectal disorders and also offers treatment of pelvic floor disorders such as rectal prolapse and fecal incontinence.

Dr. Krajewski is board certified by both, the American Board of Surgery and by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Dr. Krajewski serves as faculty in surgery at the FIU College of Medicine.
